Bio of composers > CHARPENTIER, Gabriel

Born in Richmond, Quebec, 1925, Gabriel Charpentier studied composition with Jean Papineau-Couture and later with Nadia Boulanger.
From 1953 to 1980, he was artistic counsellor and responsible for programming serious music at the CBC french network.
As musical director of the Théâtre du Nouveau-Monde in Montreal, he composed the music for a great number of plays for this theater as well as for the St. Lawrence Theater in Toronto and the Stratford Festival.
