11 Etudes
are perhaps more character pieces than etudes. Some are based upon different rhythms from Africa (Now You See It, Now You Donšt, Now You Do and Start Now) and Bulgaria (Home is Here) while others are more contrapuntal in nature. As I wrote these pieces I was very conscious of a sequence and overall structure. They are best realized as a whole piece according to the order of this publication.
Many of the etudes are dedicated to different students I have taught from the Curtis High School Guitar Ensemble in Staten Island, NY. As a group, they are dedicated to that ensemblešs former teacher, Lou Mannarino, and to a great patron of that ensemble, John Kiehl.
